GREEK ISLANDS -
SYROS ( SIROS )
Syros is one of the smaller Cyclades. There is very little vegetation, most of it in the central and north areas, and water is scarce. The name Syros is derived from the phoenician word Osyra, meaning Happy. A name which reflects the prosperity that the island has enjoyed in both early and recent years. The philosopher Pherekidis was born here, at the begining of 6th century b.C. he was the teacher of Pythagoras and was occupied with metapsychosis and the eternity of the soul. | |||
